First league game of 2014

The 2014 league campaign got underway on Sunday with the Emmets handed a tough opener against St Peters in Clonmore.

It took a while for both teams to shake of the winter blues as the game remained scoreless for the first quarter of an hour. Clonmore looked the more dangerous though but clearly had left the shooting boots at home as they recorded 8 wides during that spell. Two fortuitous St Peters goals completely turned the game on its head however, and it wasn’t until the dying minutes of the half that Cahal Cunningham registered Clonmore’s first score, reducing the deficit to 8 point – HT Clonmore 0:01 St Peters 2:03

The second half was much more of a contest but with both sets of defenders on top of their game, scores were at a premium. Both teams registered 1:04 in the second period with Cahal Cunningham 1:00, Caolan Donaghy 0:03 and Phil Mullen 0:01 taking their scores for Clonmore. Unfortunately St Peters’ 15 minutes of dominance at the end of the first half could not be reversed – FT Clonmore 1:05 St Peters 3:07

Our Draw and Donation subscription scheme, Club Cead, is re-launching this month for another year. Many thanks to all those who joined last year and congratulations to all our winners throughout 2013/2014,  particularly Mike and Lea Dunne who collected the top prize of £1000 in our end of year March draw. Club Cead provides a significant portion of our income each year while paying out over £6000 in prizes, there are still places left in the scheme and we would very much welcome new members, while encouraging existing members to commit for another year. Your contribution to the Club is much appreciated.

We are also renewing field signs at this time and seeking a main field sponsor, any business or individual interested in either role should speak with the Club Chairman or Secretary before 27th April.

Our next league fixture is away to Middletown on Sunday 27th April at 2pm.
