Fall of the Hall memories

The last weekend in August 2013 will be remembered by all in Clonmore as the time we said goodbye to the faithful old Clonmore Hall. Starting with a guest tea, concert & dance on the Saturday night, the hall was packed with firends of Clonmore all wishing to soak up the atmosphere one last time at a function in the hall. A team of local ladies arranged refreshments and local children treated the crowd to their team dance from last year’s Strictly An Chluain Mhor. The Clonmore Choir followed with homage to Robert Emmet as well as a lively Abba medley. Local musicians Paddy Donaghy, Gerard Cunningham, John Donaghy were joined by Brendan Rae and Gary Currie to provide music for a ceili and dance and Gerard fulfilled his plan to get everyone up on the dancefloor.

On Sunday morning mass was celebrated by Dean Curry in the hall and we remembered the great service it had provided over the years to the community. Representatives from the various groups in Clonmore: CRG, Clonmore GFC, Naomh Eoin, Naomh Louise, the Senior team, Clintyclay PS, Clintyclay PTA, Clonmore Choir and Clintyclay Board of Governors all took part in a procession with items representing the hall or Clonmore. Prayers of the faithful recalled the faithfully departed who helped build the hall sixty years ago and those who enjoyed many functions and events in it through the years.

The community fun day followed with an opportunity for people to write messages on a graffiti wall inside the hall. While it is sad for many to see the hall go – we all look forward to seeing the new building starting to take shape and the opportunities it will give the Clonmore community.
