Keep recycling extra materials in your Blue Bin!

Keep recycling your glass bottles and jars, empty aerosols and plastic packaging in your blue bin!

These new materials were added to the range of items that can be taken in the blue bin in December 2012. These new materials will be recycled along with your paper, cardboard, plastic bottles, cartons, foil trays, food tins and drink cans.

Thanks to the efforts of everyone in the Borough to recycle more, the recycling rate has increased from just over 30% in 2007/08 to over 41% in 2011/12! By adding these extra materials into our blue bins we can all help to improve this even more.

Household plastic packaging that can be taken in the blue bin includes clean yogurt pots, butter tubs, plastic meat trays, fruit punnets and ready meal trays.

Aerosols can be taken in the blue bin now too. They must be empty.

Glass can also be taken in the blue bin now too. This includes bottles and jars of all colours of glass.

To prevent odours and to make sure all items are clean and can be recycled, rinse out bottles and jars, food containers, cartons and cans.

It is still important to keep the wrong materials out of your blue bin to ensure your blue bin is always collected. Polystyrene and shredded paper should not be put in the blue bin. Don’t forget to use your brown bin or home compost bin to compost you food and garden waste.

If you did not receive your leaflet explaining the changes to the blue bin service you can find it on the Council website (on the homepage search for Recycling) or please contact the Waste Service Department.

If you feel that you will need an extra blue bin to hold all of your blue bin materials then you can buy another one from the Council or another supplier.

Excess blue bin materials can also be brought to your local Household Waste Recycling Centre:
